Non-Profit ~ Staff Accountant ~ Washington, DC

60-70k, 401k, 2 days in office

Robert Half is recruiting for an Entry Level Accountant to join a growing organization in Washington, DC! As an Entry Level Accountant, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of operational accounting. This includes processing payroll, reconciling accounts, accounts payable, and journal entries. The ideal candidate must have an accounting degree, payroll processing skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The role is in Washington, DC and is only 2 days a week in office after training.

Key Responsibilities:

• Payroll Processing: Accurately process payroll for all employees, including calculating wages, overtime, deductions, and taxes. Ensure timely payroll execution in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
• Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of payroll-related accounts, including payroll liability accounts, and resolve any discrepancies promptly.
• General Ledger Entries: Prepare and post payroll journal entries to the general ledger. Ensure all payroll transactions are accurately recorded and properly classified.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze payroll-related financial reports, including payroll cost analysis, labor expense reports, and budget variance analysis. Provide insights to support management decision-making.
• Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll by providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance payroll and accounting processes. Implement best practices to improve efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
• Compliance: Stay updated on changes in payroll laws and regulations. Ensure all payroll and accounting activities adhere to legal and regulatory requirements.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is a must.

Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience.

Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain a high level of professionalism.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
