Job Overview
Responsible for working with Innovation & Marketing team to conceptualize products and commission new Production lines for purchase and installation in one of Give & Go’s bakeries. The role will be tasked with the creation and development of new products or enhancing existing products to meet customer expectations effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform own Shelf-Life testing, attending tastings, collating and distributing data, and advising of next steps based on outcome of testing.
- Lead in formulating, scaling, baking and packaging of lab & customer samples, independently maintaining TVC & PDS records for formulation records, accurate costing, and Critical to Quality Points
- Own Product Development for a production line & 2 product categories in one of Give & Go’s bakeries, independently directing plant trials and FRP’s, pre-trial meetings, keeping detailed records on plant trial production details, outcomes, including labour head count and suitability to production, with Tech Services support
- Record accurate formula data including recipes, methodology, deposit weights, baking losses, following test kitchen samples for translation to plant floor
- Formulate new product innovations and line extensions, seeing them through to commercialization
- Direct Product Development Assistant per Production plant to place & close Purchase Orders for needed Plant Trial ingredients with Suppliers.
- Execute commercialization of products with Tech Services support, owning personal project load; flexible to changes in workload.
- Assist Product Developers and Tech Services when required
- Formulate new product innovations and line extensions, seeing them through to commercialization on their assigned production line
- Formulate, scale, bake, label and package lab & customer samples.
- Record data in computer systems to save info for recipes in TVC’s
- Ensure formulas are scaled to best accommodate ingredient pack sizes in the plant
- Identify areas of improvements and concerns and recommend improvements by providing guidance in product upgrades to meet changing business demands
- Schedule regular meetings to discuss about new product ideas and issues
- Observe all SQF and HACCP policies
- Troubleshoots when necessary to ensure product success
The Recipe For Success
- Completion of college diploma in Food Science or a related field
- Minimum 4 years experience in the Food Manufacturing industry
- Minimum 4 years experience working as a Product Developer Assistant or Coordinator
- Chefs or Bakers Red Seal certificate
- Comprehensive understanding of commercial bakery ingredients, production processes and equipment capability
- Good understanding of GMP, HACCP, GFSI (BRC, SQF) and Food Allergens
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- Have good working knowledge of word, excel, power point and outlook
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize task, delegate and follow up
- Ability to lead, work independently, and in a team environment
- Solid understanding of urgency in responding to internal (other departments) and external (suppliers, agencies, customers) partners
