Job Purpose

The Lab Assistant will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and supervising the university’s academic laboratories. The ideal candidate will assist faculty members in conducting practical sessions, ensure the safety and upkeep of lab equipment, and guide students during their experiments.

Key Responsibilities (Common Across All Streams)

• Lab Maintenance: Set up, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and software before scheduled practical classes.
• Academic Support: Assist faculty and students during lab sessions, ensuring experiments run smoothly and safely.
• Inventory Management: Maintain an updated inventory of all lab equipment, components, chemicals, or software licenses. Log entries for consumables and non-consumables.
• Safety & Compliance: Enforce laboratory safety protocols, handle hazardous materials (where applicable) responsibly, and maintain first-aid/safety equipment.
• Documentation: Maintain lab manuals, attendance registers, stock registers, and breakdown/maintenance logs.
• Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve minor technical snags, hardware defects, or software issues, and coordinate with vendors for major repairs.

Stream-Specific Requirements

Choose the relevant section below based on the specific department hiring:

1. Computer Science Engineering (CSE)

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, Linux/Ubuntu), installation of development software/IDEs (Python, Java, C++, MATLAB, etc.), and basic networking (LAN configuration, IP addressing).
• Duties: Managing computer systems, system administration, software updates, and maintaining server rooms.

2. Electronics / Electrical Engineering

• Technical Skills: Familiarity with CROs, DSOs, function generators, power supplies, multimeters, microcontrollers (Arduino, 8051, Raspberry Pi), and PLC systems.
• Duties: Soldering, PCB troubleshooting, breadboard circuit verification, and managing electrical machines/power electronics labs safely.

3. Physics

• Technical Skills: Handling optical instruments (spectrometers, lasers, microscopes), electrical circuits (bridge circuits), and mechanical setups (pendulums, flywheels).
• Duties: Darkroom maintenance, ensuring precise calibration of sensitive measuring instruments.

4. Chemistry

• Technical Skills: Safe handling of chemicals, preparation of standard solutions, and knowledge of analytical instruments (pH meters, colorimeters, titrations).
• Duties: Proper chemical waste disposal, labeling reagents, and ensuring strict adherence to chemical hygiene plans.

Educational Qualifications

• For CSE/Electronics/Electrical: B.E. / B.Tech in the respective branch of engineering/technology.
• For Physics/Chemistry: B.Sc / M.Sc in Physics or Chemistry.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

• Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students and faculty.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive attitude toward lab maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel) for inventory tracking and record-keeping.
• High level of discipline and attention to safety details.
