Job Purpose

The Lab Assistant will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and supervising the university’s academic laboratories. The ideal candidate will assist faculty members in conducting practical sessions, ensure the safety and upkeep of lab equipment, and guide students during their experiments.

Key Responsibilities (Common Across All Streams)

  • Lab Maintenance: Set up, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and software before scheduled practical classes.
  • Academic Support: Assist faculty and students during lab sessions, ensuring experiments run smoothly and safely.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain an updated inventory of all lab equipment, components, chemicals, or software licenses. Log entries for consumables and non-consumables.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce laboratory safety protocols, handle hazardous materials (where applicable) responsibly, and maintain first-aid/safety equipment.
  • Documentation: Maintain lab manuals, attendance registers, stock registers, and breakdown/maintenance logs.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve minor technical snags, hardware defects, or software issues, and coordinate with vendors for major repairs.
