Job Summary
The Professor of English is responsible for teaching undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses in English Language and Literature, guiding research scholars, and contributing to academic leadership in the university. The role includes curriculum development, research publication, student mentoring, and participation in institutional academic governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach UG, PG, and PhD courses in English Literature, Language, and Linguistics
- Design, revise, and implement curriculum as per UGC/NEP guidelines
- Conduct high-quality research and publish in reputed peer-reviewed journals
- Guide PhD scholars, M.Phil (if applicable), and postgraduate dissertations
- Evaluate academic performance through examinations, assignments, and assessments
- Organize seminars, conferences, workshops, and literary events
- Contribute to departmental administration and academic committees
- Mentor students in academic writing, communication, and career development
- Support institutional accreditation processes (NAAC/NIRF)
- Promote interdisciplinary research and academic collaboration
Minimum Qualification (Mandatory)
- Ph.D. in English (Literature / Language / Linguistics or related field)
- Master’s Degree in English with minimum 55% marks (or equivalent grade)
Experience (As per UGC Norms)
- Minimum 10 years of teaching and/or research experience in university/college level
OR
- Equivalent research experience in recognized national/international institutions
Research Requirements (Mandatory)
- Minimum 10 research publications in peer-reviewed / UGC-CARE listed journals
- Evidence of PhD supervision (completed or ongoing scholars)
- Strong academic contribution through books, chapters, or research projects (preferred)
Skills Required
- Strong command over English Literature, Literary Theory, and Criticism
- Excellent teaching, writing, and communication skills
- Research design and academic publication ability
- Curriculum development and academic planning skills
- Ability to mentor students in critical thinking and writing
- Proficiency in academic and digital teaching tools
Additional Requirements (Mandatory)
- Compliance with UGC API (Academic Performance Indicator) requirements
- Active participation in academic governance and institutional development
