Manufacturing Engineer – Job Summary

Location: Kitchener ON

Company: Automotive manufacturing

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support process optimization, equipment feasibility, and continuous improvement in a high‑volume production environment. This role focuses on improving process flow, supporting new program launches, and ensuring safe, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and improve plant process flow using manufacturing engineering tools (Pareto, time studies, DOE, labor balancing, problem‑solving methods).
  • Conduct feasibility, capacity, and capability studies for new and existing programs; define machine specifications and support safe equipment sourcing with cross‑functional teams.
  • Support APQP activities, including process flow development, PFMEA, tooling/equipment specifications, and PPAP deliverables.
  • Implement corrective actions, mistake‑proofing (poka‑yoke), and engineering/process changes.
  • Maintain accurate BOMs and process routings within the ERP system.
  • Perform Layered Process Audits and Standard Work Audits.
  • Source and requisition tools, materials, and spare parts for process improvements.
  • Design, update, and maintain tooling and poke‑yoke components using SolidWorks.
  • Support Maintenance with tooling/process troubleshooting to meet production demand.
  • Define and execute Part Trial Runs (PTR) and complete machine buy‑offs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, PSHSR requirements, and ISO14001:2015 standards.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in high‑volume manufacturing (automotive preferred).
  • Post‑secondary education in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Industrial/Manufacturing engineering designation is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing quality systems and APQP/PPAP processes.
  • Proficient in 2D/3D CAD for plant and cell layout optimization.
  • Experience with measurement systems, gauge design, and Gauge R&R.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and ability to apply it throughout the process flow.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing tools (VSM, process mapping, work balancing).
  • Practical ERP experience for BOM and routing updates.
  • Basic understanding of automation (robotics, PLCs) for monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with metal forming or brazing is an asset.
