Job Description
Chesapeake Search Partners is partnering with a growing, acquisition-driven construction and project-based services organization to identify a Senior Project Accountant to join their team. This individual will play a key role in overseeing project financials, driving accurate revenue recognition, and partnering closely with project managers to ensure visibility into project performance and profitability.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, has a strong grasp of WIP accounting, and is comfortable navigating complex, project-based financials.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Oversee the financial lifecycle of projects, including cost tracking, billing activity, and revenue alignment
- Monitor and maintain project-level reporting, ensuring accuracy across WIP and financial data
- Evaluate project performance through variance analysis, forecasts, and budget comparisons
- Partner closely with project and operations teams to address financial trends, risks, and cost concerns
- Support the close process through reconciliations, journal entries, and project-related adjustments
- Interpret contracts and project changes to ensure proper financial treatment
- Handle specialized customer billing requirements, including AIA-style invoicing when applicable
- Contribute to audit support by organizing and explaining project financial data
- Assist with integrating and standardizing accounting processes across newly acquired business units
- Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, improve data accuracy, and enhance overall processes
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in project or construction accounting environments
- Strong understanding of WIP schedules and revenue recognition methodologies
- Advanced Excel capabilities (data analysis, lookups, pivots; macros a plus)
- Experience working within an ERP system (Sage Intacct or similar preferred)
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
