Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description
The Maintenance Technician installs, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical, electronic, and mechanical components of industrial machinery and equipment. This role follows electrical codes, technical manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment. The technician uses a variety of hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment to diagnose issues, perform repairs, and support ongoing preventive maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment in accordance with electrical codes and company standards.
- Interpret and work from manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other technical specifications to perform accurate installations and repairs.
- Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures using appropriate electrical and electronic test equipment.
- Replace damaged or broken wires, cables, relays, switches, motors, position sensing devices, and other faulty electrical components using hand and power tools.
- Test malfunctioning machinery using test equipment and collaborate with machine operators and other maintenance personnel to identify and resolve issues.
- Analyze equipment problems, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
- Install conduit and wiring to support new equipment, modifications, and facility improvements.
- Follow safe work practices at all times in accordance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable electrical codes.
- Work from elevated surfaces such as scaffolding, platform lifts, and ladders while maintaining strict adherence to safety procedures.
- Identify hazards related to operating equipment and promptly advise management of any dangers associated with current equipment conditions.
- Perform basic metal fabrication using welding equipment to support equipment repairs and modifications.
- Support and perform preventive maintenance activities on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Use computer systems to complete basic tasks such as documentation, work orders, and communication related to maintenance activities.
Essential Skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in an industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of electronics and electrical systems, including the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams.
- Good knowledge of industrial maintenance practices, including installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of production equipment.
- Exceptional mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with a wide range of machinery and components.
- Ability to follow safe work practices in accordance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and electrical codes.
- Ability to install conduit and wiring and perform basic electrical installations and modifications.
- Capability to work safely from elevated surfaces such as scaffolding, platform lifts, and ladders.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with operators, maintenance staff, and leadership.
- Ability to use computer systems for basic tasks, including documentation and work order processing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of plant equipment utilized in folding carton manufacturing or similar industrial production environments.
- Experience performing basic metal fabrication and welding to support equipment repair and modification.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and best practices for industrial machinery.
- Ability to conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures and recommend long-term corrective actions.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing setting with multiple concurrent priorities.

Work Environment
This role operates in an industrial manufacturing environment with folding carton or similar production equipment. You will work around complex machinery that uses electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and you will regularly use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and electrical and electronic test instruments. The position requires working in and around operating equipment, occasionally from elevated surfaces such as scaffolding, platform lifts, and ladders, while following strict safety standards and procedures. The environment is hands-on and production-focused, requiring attention to detail, adherence to safety regulations, and readiness to respond to maintenance needs as they arise.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Staunton, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
