Job Summary

ThriveWell Recovery Centers is seeking a compassionate, mission-driven, Bi-Lingual Spanish-Speaking Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) to join our growing behavioral health team.

This role is ideal for a dedicated substance use professional who is passionate about helping adults struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges build lasting recovery. The CSAC will provide substance use counseling, group facilitation, recovery education, relapse prevention support, case coordination, and client engagement services within a collaborative outpatient treatment environment.

The ideal candidate is CSAC-certified or CSAC-eligible in Virginia, fluent in English and Spanish, and committed to delivering culturally competent, recovery-focused care with professionalism, compassion, and strong documentation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide substance use counseling and recovery support to clients participating in outpatient treatment programs.
  • Facilitate structured groups focused on relapse prevention, coping skills, life skills, recovery education, emotional regulation, and substance use recovery.
  • Assist with intake screenings, client orientation, substance use assessments, and ongoing recovery planning under appropriate clinical supervision.
  • Support the development and implementation of individualized service plans in collaboration with licensed clinicians and the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Provide client support, motivation, engagement, and accountability throughout the treatment process.
  • Identify client needs, barriers to care, and risk factors, and communicate concerns promptly to clinical leadership.
  • Provide crisis support, de-escalation, and appropriate referrals under supervision and within scope of practice.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and HIPAA-compliant documentation, including group notes, progress notes, service documentation, and care coordination records.
  • Collaborate with therapists, case managers, medical providers, nurses, peer/recovery support staff, and community partners.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, case reviews, supervision, and quality improvement activities.
  • Support discharge planning, aftercare coordination, and continuity of care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education / Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in human services, counseling, psychology, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Active CSAC, CSAC-Supervisee, or eligibility for CSAC certification in Virginia preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of two years of experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, recovery support, or related human services setting preferred.
  • Experience working with adults with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions strongly preferred.

Language

  • Fluency in both Spanish and English required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and families in Spanish.

  • Strong understanding of substance use disorders, recovery principles, relapse prevention, and trauma-informed care.
  • Experience facilitating substance use recovery groups.
  • Excellent communication, engagement, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Professional, ethical, compassionate, and client-centered approach.
  • Experience with EHR systems and telehealth platforms preferred.
