About the Team
The Health Underwriting team at Navi plays a critical role in the risk management of Navi’s health insurance portfolio. The team manages the end-to-end evaluation process of health insurance proposals with a strong focus on accuracy and adherence to underwriting guidelines and policies of the Company.
About the Role
As an Associate Manager - Health Underwriting, you will evaluate health insurance proposals end-to-end by referring to medical examination reports, health reports, past medical records and related data of prospective health insurance customers. You will be expected to maintain adherence to the underwriting guidelines and policies of the Company to take accurate, fair and compliant underwriting decisions.
Must Haves
- Qualification : Medical Graduate in any stream (MBBS, BAMS, BHMS)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience
- Technical Skills:
- Good command of advanced medical terminology is essential, coupled with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmaceutical regimens to assess chronic and acute conditions.
- Good ability to analyze medical data and make sound decisions.
- Communication Excellence: Good command of written and spoken English and Hindi. Multilingual ability is an added advantage.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and logical thinking skills to handle tasks independently.
- Flexible and adaptable to a changing and digital-first work environment.
What We Expect From You
1. Risk Assessment and Decision Making
- Evaluate and underwrite insurance applications by meticulously reviewing applicant profiles, including medical reports, health records, and general application data.
- Determine insurability and classify risk levels associated with applicants.
- Render final underwriting decisions (approval, modification, or decline) based on established underwriting guidelines and risk management principles, often requiring the procurement of additional medical information.
- Ensure all underwriting decisions adhere strictly to company policies, legal regulations, and best-practice risk management standards.
2. Operational Management and Compliance
- Maintain detailed and accurate underwriting records for audit readiness and transparency.
- Ensure rigorous adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Turnaround Times (TATs) throughout the health underwriting process.
- Prepare and analyze periodical underwriting reports detailing key operational parameters such as productivity, quality, and workflow efficiency.
3. Stakeholder and Customer Engagement
- Serve as a key point of contact for handling underwriting-related queries directly from customers and for resolving complex grievances within defined TATs and SLAs.
- Effectively coordinate with Operations, Customer Service, and Claims teams to ensure seamless processes and deliver a superior customer experience.
- Manage relationships and performance of external vendors involved in the underwriting process.
4. Process Improvement and Expertise
- Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting processes, guidelines, and risk assessment tools.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant medical developments, evolving insurance industry trends, and regulatory changes to inform underwriting practices.
