BACKGROUND
The $14 billion Climate Investment Funds (CIF) invests in developing countries to drive sustainable, resilient growth and build shared prosperity through climate finance. Since 2008, CIF has partnered with governments and multilateral development banks. CIF accelerates investment to transform energy systems, build resilience, harness nature-based solutions, and modernize industry, paving the way for other investors to follow. Through grants and concessional loans, CIF enables more than 80 countries to mobilize capital, with over $10 in expected co-financing for every CIF dollar on average. In 2025, CIF became the first multilateral climate fund to raise new private finance in capital markets through the CIF Capital Markets Mechanism, CCMM.
The CIF Secretariat, hosted by the World Bank, supports the work of the CIF governing bodies, including strategy and policy development and results reporting. It manages internal and external institutional relations and strategic partnerships, supports program development, delivers a substantial program of thought leadership and knowledge and learning work, and is responsible for portfolio risk management as well as new private sector capital mobilization modalities and initiatives.
SERVICES REQUIRED
We are seeking an experienced executive communications specialist to join our team. The Executive Communications Specialist will serve as a key part of the Communications team, working to tell the story of the organization and the people we serve through executive speechwriting and social media. The position reports to the Head of Communications, and a successful candidate should expect to work directly with the CEO and Deputy CEO on message development and execution of public addresses.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Articulate the vision and ideas of the CEO and executive team, in engaging and creative ways, to a variety of key audiences.
- Lead the speechwriting and talking point development process for the CEO, which will include drafting speeches, keynote remarks, event talking points, etc.; coordinating with senior leadership across the organization to compile up-to-date communications materials; and supporting the CEO to maximize the impact of public appearances.
- Keep abreast of major trends in relevant sectors, new research, and other data to support and strengthen presentations and articles.
- Ensure content is consistent with relevant strategy, messaging, branding, and other core objectives.
- Maintain a comprehensive electronic archive of speeches, remarks, and presentations, both as prepared and as delivered.
- Work closely with the CEO, Communications and Front Office team to develop an understanding of the CEO’s preferred style and preferences for speeches.
- The specialist will work closely with colleagues to manage the CEO's social media channels, using the platforms as important tools to amplify her voice, public events, and earned media, as well as increase overall engagement with the organization.
- Work closely with the organization's social media specialist to monitor and analyze social media metrics and listening, ensuring that all owned channels' work is being used strategically.
- Contribute to the creation and execution of an executive thought leadership strategy for the CEO.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of the work of the team.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Master's Degree (or equivalent) or bachelor's degree in Communications, International Relations Public Affairs, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science or other related disciplines, with a minimum of 8 years (with master's) or 15 years (with bachelor's) of relevant experience
- At least 5+ years of demonstrated record of writing speeches, op-eds, and strategic materials for a senior executive or principal of a high-profile corporate, government, multilateral, or non-profit organization
- Ability to quickly learn an executive's voice and style and implement it across relevant communications channels
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, the ability to quickly learn about new topics and effectively communicate complex information in a clear, precise, and compelling-way experience using social media as a tool to further executive communications
- Demonstrated knowledge of online marketing communications strategies and tactics, digital trends, and technologies
- Impeccable work ethic and attention to detail
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact and collaborate with people at various professional levels and diverse backgrounds
- Personal and professional integrity, self-motivation and proven ability to work under minimum supervision
- Self-starter and energetic; adept at working independently, as well as collaboratively
