Responsibilities: Evaluate and assess insurance applications for various lines of business (e.g., property, casualty, life, health) to determine risk acceptability. Determine appropriate coverage terms, conditions, exclusions, and pricing (premiums) based on risk assessment. Adhere strictly to underwriting guidelines, company policies, and regulatory requirements. Manage a portfolio of policies, including renewal underwriting and risk management. Collaborate with agents, brokers, and clients to gather necessary information and explain underwriting decisions. Identify potential risks and fraudulent activities, implementing appropriate measures to mitigate them. Maintain accurate and detailed records of underwriting decisions and justifications in the system. Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines and procedures. Provide training and mentorship to junior underwriters. Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and changes in legislation that may affect underwriting. Review and analyze claims data to identify trends and inform underwriting strategies. Develop strong relationships with internal departments such as claims, actuarial, and legal. Ensure timely processing of applications and policy documents. Participate in audits and reviews to ensure compliance and quality assurance. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in insurance underwriting, with demonstrated expertise in a specific line of business. In-depth knowledge of insurance principles, practices, and regulations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data. Excellent decision-making abilities and sound judgment. Proficiency in underwriting software and relevant insurance systems. Strong understanding of financial statements and risk assessment techniques. Effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage time efficiently and handle a significant workload.
