Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Agronomist to join our dedicated team, contributing expertise to agricultural and forestry operations in and around Washington, D.C. . This role is crucial for optimizing crop yields, improving soil health, implementing sustainable farming practices, and managing forestry resources effectively. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of plant science, soil science, pest management, and modern agricultural technologies. You will work closely with farmers, foresters, researchers, and government agencies to provide expert advice and implement innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

Conduct field assessments and soil analysis to determine nutrient deficiencies, soil health status, and optimal planting conditions. Develop and recommend tailored crop management plans, including fertilization, irrigation, pest and disease control strategies, and crop rotation. Advise farmers and agricultural professionals on best practices for maximizing crop productivity and quality. Implement and monitor sustainable agricultural techniques to conserve soil and water resources and minimize environmental impact. Provide expertise on forestry management, including timber harvesting, reforestation, and conservation efforts. Stay abreast of the latest agricultural research, technologies, and regulatory changes affecting the industry. Collect and analyze data on crop performance, weather patterns, and market trends to inform recommendations. Educate farmers and stakeholders on new technologies, such as precision agriculture and genetically modified crops. Collaborate with research institutions and government agencies to advance agricultural science and policy. Prepare detailed reports and presentations on agronomic findings and recommendations. Troubleshoot agricultural problems and develop practical solutions for growers. Supervise and mentor junior agronomists and field technicians.

Qualifications

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Science, Agriculture, or a related field. Minimum of 6 years of practical experience in agronomy, crop science, or agricultural consulting. In-depth knowledge of soil chemistry, plant physiology, entomology, and plant pathology. Experience with precision agriculture technologies and data analysis software. Familiarity with sustainable farming practices and environmental conservation. Strong understanding of crop production systems relevant to the region. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in the field and office. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the designated region. Knowledge of forestry practices is a significant plus.
