Logistics and Fleet Manager

Our client, a dynamic and growing logistics company, is seeking a highly organized and experienced Logistics and Fleet Manager to oversee their operations. This is an on-site role based in Richmond, Virginia , crucial for hands-on management of daily transportation activities. You will be responsible for managing the company's fleet of vehicles, ensuring operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with all relevant regulations. This includes driver management, route optimization, vehicle maintenance scheduling, and fuel management. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of supply chain and logistics principles, excellent leadership skills, and a proven ability to manage a fleet and its personnel effectively. You will work closely with dispatchers, drivers, maintenance staff, and other operational departments to ensure timely and safe delivery of goods. Key responsibilities involve developing and implementing logistics strategies, monitoring fleet performance metrics, negotiating with vendors for parts and services, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols and transportation laws. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving operational challenges. The successful candidate will be adept at using logistics software and analytics to drive continuous improvement in fleet operations. This is a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our client's transportation network.

Responsibilities: Oversee the daily operations of the company's vehicle fleet. Manage and schedule drivers, ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies. Develop and optimize delivery routes to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Implement and manage a preventative maintenance program for all vehicles. Monitor fleet performance metrics, including utilization, fuel consumption, and maintenance costs. Ensure all vehicles and operations comply with local, state, and federal transportation regulations. Manage relationships with third-party vendors for maintenance, repairs, and fuel. Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures for drivers and vehicles. Utilize logistics and fleet management software to track assets and analyze data. Conduct regular performance reviews for drivers and support staff. Manage inventory of spare parts and supplies for vehicle maintenance. Respond to and resolve transportation-related issues and emergencies. Contribute to the development of overall logistics strategy. Qualifications: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in logistics or fleet management. Proven experience managing a fleet of commercial vehicles and supervising drivers. Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety standards. Proficiency with fleet management software and transportation management systems (TMS). Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze data and make informed operational decisions. Experience with budgeting and cost control related to fleet operations. Problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
