Lead Process Chemical Engineer

Our client, a cutting-edge chemical manufacturing firm based in Baltimore, Maryland, US , is looking for a highly skilled and innovative Lead Process Chemical Engineer. This critical role involves overseeing the design, development, optimization, and troubleshooting of complex chemical processes. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance across all manufacturing operations. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong theoretical foundation coupled with practical experience in industrial chemical engineering. Key Responsibilities: Lead the design and implementation of new chemical processes and the modification of existing ones to improve yield, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Develop and optimize process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and process equipment specifications. Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement appropriate safety measures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Troubleshoot process issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and production losses. Manage and mentor a team of chemical engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and professional development. Collaborate with R&D, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless integration of new technologies and processes. Perform process simulations and modeling to evaluate design options and predict performance. Develop and implement process control strategies to ensure consistent product quality and operational efficiency. Oversee capital projects related to process improvements and expansions, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in chemical engineering technology and methodologies. Qualifications: Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in process chemical engineering, with a significant portion in a leadership or supervisory role. Demonstrated expertise in process design, scale-up, optimization, and troubleshooting in a chemical manufacturing environment. In-depth knowledge of process safety management (PSM), hazard analysis techniques (HAZOP, LOPA), and regulatory compliance (e.g., EPA, OSHA). Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools. Strong project management skills, with experience managing complex technical projects. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience with batch and/or continuous processing preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
