As a Lead Insurance Underwriter at our reputable insurance client, you will be responsible for managing and mentoring a team while handling complex commercial risks. Your role will involve assessing and pricing multifaceted insurance policies to ensure profitability and compliance with company guidelines and regulatory standards. Your deep understanding of insurance principles and risk assessment methodologies will be crucial in underwriting challenging accounts and developing underwriting strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite complex commercial insurance policies, such as property, casualty, and specialty lines.
  • Assess risks by evaluating financial statements, loss history, operational procedures, and market conditions.
  • Determine appropriate coverage terms, conditions, and pricing for profitable business.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents, offering expert guidance on risk appetite and product offerings.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of junior and experienced underwriters to foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Develop and implement underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures for consistency and quality.
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activities to adapt underwriting strategies.
  • Review and approve large or complex submissions beyond individual underwriters' authority.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to the underwriting team.
  • Collaborate with claims, actuarial, and product development departments to support business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as CPCU or AU are highly desirable.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in insurance underwriting, focusing on complex commercial risks.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing and developing underwriting teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of various insurance lines, risk assessment techniques, and pricing models.
  • Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements in the insurance industry.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage a demanding workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and data analysis tools.
