PostgreSQL DBA

Job Summary

We are looking for a PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) with 3–5 years of experience to manage and maintain PostgreSQL database systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installation, configuration, monitoring, performance tuning, backup, and security of PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high availability and reliability of data.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Administration & Operations

• Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL database servers in production and non-production environments.
• Perform regular database monitoring, health checks, and maintenance.
• Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies (pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL archiving, Point-in-Time Recovery).
• Configure and manage replication (streaming / logical replication) and high availability solutions.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues including query optimization and indexing.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as VACUUM, reindexing, and analyzing table statistics.
• Manage database users, roles, and permissions following security best practices.
• Plan and execute database upgrades and patching.

Performance Tuning

• Analyze SQL queries and optimize database performance.
• Use monitoring tools such as pg_stat_activity, pg_stat_statements, pgBadger, Prometheus, Grafana.
• Work with development teams to ensure efficient schema design and database interaction.

Security & Compliance

• Implement and maintain database security policies and access control.
• Monitor for potential security vulnerabilities or breaches.
• Ensure compliance with data protection standards and internal policies.

Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams for deployment and troubleshooting.
• Provide guidance on PostgreSQL best practices.
• Maintain documentation for database architecture, configurations, and procedures.

Automation

• Develop scripts using Bash or Python to automate routine database tasks.
• Implement automation for database monitoring, maintenance, and provisioning.

Required Skills

• 3–6 years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and PL/pgSQL.
• In-depth understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, WAL, VACUUM, and connection pooling.
• Experience with replication and high availability solutions (Patroni, Repmgr, Pgpool-II).
• Hands-on experience in backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
• Strong experience with Linux/Unix environments.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as pgAdmin, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Nagios.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS RDS, GCP Cloud SQL, Azure PostgreSQL).
• Knowledge of other databases such as MySQL or Oracle.
• Familiarity with Git or Liquibase.
• Experience in database migration projects.

Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.

Pay: ₹600,000.00 per year
