The Senior Estimator is a key leadership position within operations, working closely with the Chief Estimator and project teams. As a Senior Estimator, you'll contribute directly to the company's continued growth and success in underground utility construction.
Job Description
As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for managing the full estimating lifecycle for underground utility projects while supporting operational and financial goals.
- Prepare detailed and competitive bid proposals for underground utility projects
- Develop accurate cost estimates using historical data, pricing databases, and industry expertise
- Analyze plans, specifications, and scope documents for water, sewer, storm drain, and utility work
- Coordinate pricing with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive and reliable bids
- Identify project risks and opportunities and develop mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and leadership to align estimates with project goals
- Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and customer presentations
- Maintain thorough documentation of estimates, assumptions, and methodologies
- Support estimating handoff to production teams with clear reporting
- Continuously improve estimating processes, tools, and best practices
The Senior Estimator role is based in the DMV region with limited travel to local project sites.

The Successful Applicant
The ideal Senior Estimator brings deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
- 5+ years of senior‑level estimating experience in underground utility construction
- Proven experience estimating water, sewer, storm drain, and related utility projects
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contracts
- Knowledge of varying jurisdictional requirements and specifications
- Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid and Bluebeam
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
- Valid driver's license for site visits and pre‑bid meetings
