The Laboratory of Professor Edward Fon is looking for a Research Assistant to join a research team investigating the molecular and pathological mechanisms underlying Parkinson's disease (PD). The Research Assistant will carry out experiments using established protocols, including work with immortalized cell lines and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models. Experimental approaches will span high-content imaging CRISPR screens, cell-based assays, omics approaches, and standard molecular and biochemical techniques. Meaningful contributions to key experiments will be recognized through authorship on resulting publications. Responsibilities Perform cell-based cultures using immortalized cell lines and iPSC-derived models, including cellular differentiation protocols Carry out standard molecular and biochemical assays, including Western blot analyses, protein extraction, and DNA/RNA extraction Contribute to the establishment and ongoing maintenance of the lab's cell bank Analyze data generated from cell-based assays and high-content imaging platforms Identify and implement improvements to existing experimental methods Prepare research documentation, including laboratory records and data compilations Participate in writing scientific communications and manuscripts Training & Development The successful candidate will receive hands-on training in both standard cell culture and molecular biology techniques as well as iPSC-specific workflows, and will develop the broader research skills needed to excel in this role. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field Minimum 2 years of relevant research experience (required) Demonstrated experience in cell culture, including immortalized cell lines (required) Hands-on experience with standard molecular and biochemical techniques, including Western blot, protein extraction, and DNA/RNA extraction (required) Experience with iPSC culture (strongly preferred) Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Professional proficiency in English, written and spoken Proficiency with Microsoft Office Hiring Unit: MNI This position is covered by the AMURE Collective agreement. http://www.aerum-amure.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/AMURE-2023-2027.pdf Before applying, please note that to work at McGill University, you must be both authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located.
