The Defense Sector at Leidos is seeking an Entry-Level Software Engineer with a passion for technology and at least 2 years of professional experience to join a dynamic and product-focused engineering team. In this role, you will be integral to the design, development, testing, and delivery of software solutions primarily using Java, Rust, and JavaScript. You will thrive in an Agile development environment, collaborating closely with fellow engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software tailored to user needs.

This position offers the flexibility to telework, but you must reside within a reasonable driving distance to either Arlington, VA or Alexandria, VA and be available on-site when requested.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software components and services utilizing Java, Rust, and JavaScript.
• Build and enhance user-facing features with React.
• Collaborate within a cross-functional Agile team, employing Jira for effective planning, tracking, and executing tasks.
• Contribute to continuous delivery pipelines, focusing on automated testing to ensure high-quality software.
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and system tests to assure the reliability of backend and frontend systems.
• Utilize generative AI tools to enhance aspects of development, testing, documentation, and problem-solving.
• Engage in code reviews, design discussions, and Agile ceremonies, fostering a culture of feedback and improvement.
• Work closely with product and user-facing teams to integrate feedback and enhance functionality and usability.
• Support continuous enhancement of development practices, tools, and processes.

Basic Qualifications

• Must be a US Citizen with an active Top Secret clearance and the ability to obtain an SCI prior to your start date.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 0-2 years of professional software development experience, or a Master's degree with 0-1 years of experience. Additional experience may substitute for education requirements.
• Proficient in Java, Rust, and/or JavaScript, with a willingness to work across these languages.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Familiarity with Jira or similar Agile project management tools is a plus.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and a commitment to test-driven or test-focused development practices.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and meticulous attention to detail.
• Able to function effectively as part of a collaborative engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and continuous delivery methodologies.
• Knowledge of cloud-based or distributed systems.
• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools.
• Understanding of usability and user-centered design principles.
