Job Description

Description

The Defense Sector at Leidos is seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to join dynamic agile development teams that are building and deploying Java, JavaScript, and Rust applications across various cloud, on-premise, and edge environments. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing secure and automated software delivery while driving improvements in developer productivity and system reliability.

We are looking for a candidate who has a thorough background in designing CI/CD pipelines, managing hybrid infrastructures, and working closely with software engineers in fast-paced development settings.

This position does offer telework options; however, the selected candidate should reside within a reasonable commuting distance to Arlington, VA or Alexandria, VA and must be available to work on-site when required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and sustain CI/CD pipelines for Java, JavaScript, and Rust applications.
  • Automate build, test, deployment, and release processes to support Agile development teams.
  • Deploy and manage applications in cloud, on-premise, and edge computing settings.
  • Create and oversee Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Maintain and optimize container workloads via Docker and Kubernetes (or similar systems).
  • Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting mechanisms to ensure system performance and availability.
  • Collaborate with security teams to embed DevSecOps practices in pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to deployment, infrastructure, and performance across distributed systems.
  • Enhance system reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency through best-practice automation.
  • Contribute to documentation, standards, and operational procedures.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active Top Secret clearance and the capability to obtain an SCI clearance before starting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 4+ years of professional experience, or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience. Consideration will be given for substantial additional experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong experience in Agile or Scrum-based development teams.
  • Hands-on experience with prominent CI/CD tools (like Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
  • Experience deploying and supporting applications developed in Java, JavaScript, and/or Rust.
  • Solid knowledge of Linux systems, networking, and system administration.
  • Proficiency with containerization (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes or similar).
  • Experience in managing hybrid environments (combining cloud and on-premise solutions).
  • Expertise with Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Strong scripting abilities (Bash, Python, or similar).
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with developers, QA, and security teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with command and control (C2), distributed systems, or mission-critical platforms.
  • Familiarity with edge computing or resource-constrained environments.
  • Experience with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of zero trust architectures, secure build pipelines, and compliance-driven environments.
  • Experience in service mesh, GitOps, or platform engineering practices.
  • Exposure to performance testing and capacity planning.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to lead and drive the delivery of meaningful software products.
  • A collaborative culture focused on team engagement, ownership, and ongoing improvement.
  • Support for modern engineering practices, automation, and emerging technologies.
  • Competitive compensation package with comprehensive benefits.
