Join Our Team as a Legal Assistant!

Leidos is actively seeking dedicated and skilled Legal Assistants to support our dynamic team. You will work in a fast-paced environment, assisting our program and management team with workflows related to electronic case filings (ECF) in the legal field.

Your contribution is invaluable as you help provide legal and technical services for the Division of Offices, Boards, and Divisions at the Department of Justice. In this role, you will enhance your skills in time and task management, critical thinking, problem-solving, and effectively communicating complex issues in a clear and concise manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage intake and track a large volume of claims for various matters.
  • Enter claims filing information into our Excel tracking system efficiently.
  • Proofread settlement memorandums to ensure accuracy and proper formatting.
  • Respond to requests from DOJ attorneys regarding filing information and document retrieval.
  • Conduct database searches of varying complexity.
  • Perform fundamental legal research to assist the team.
  • Support DOJ attorneys in trial preparations with various tasks.

Basic Qualifications

  • Possession of a paralegal certificate, a Juris Doctor (JD), or currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed. Alternatively, one (1) year of legal training or experience, or two (2) years of college education may substitute for the paralegal certificate.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of litigation paralegal experience or project-related experience.
  • Solid understanding of general litigation processes, including trial preparation support.
  • Proficient in Excel for creating tracking spreadsheets and streamlining claims intake processes.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exceptional proofreading and editing skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in general litigation support.
  • Prior experience in a Federal Government environment is a plus.
  • Experience in trial preparation.
  • Knowledge of claims processing is advantageous.

This position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum wage requirements. We ensure compliance with all provisions. The pay for this position is $25.58/hr.
