Steelcut Software is in the process of expanding. We are looking for Software Engineers, Systems Administrators, and Subject Matter Experts to lead development and deployment of next-generation web applications. Entry-Level Systems Administrator — Remote This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic, recent graduate to gain experience in Systems Administration in support of real-world infrastructure and advanced Artificial Intelligence-based Web applications. We are a small team, so depending on your background, you may have the opportunity to contribute to various aspects of IT operations, from manual and automated system configuration to DevOps, Cybersecurity, and production server support. PLEASE NOTE: Currently this is a remote position with occasional in-person meetings. However, preference will be given to candidates in the vicinity of Bethesda, MD, as a hybrid work arrangement may be established in the future. What you'll do Support administration and maintenance of external customer systems and internal infrastructure. For example, you may: Develop Ansible and other scripts to automate deployment and maintenance tasks Set up accounts or groups needed to support external user applications Install webservers or other software to support internal systems and external client deployments Troubleshoot and resolve issues with customer passwords or remote connectivity Perform ongoing system monitoring and backup capabilities Configure, maintain, and monitor virtual machines (VMs). For example, you may: Perform and track regular system updates Conduct ongoing system monitoring and generate periodic system reports Run and track security compliance scans and remediate issues Monitor system backups, system usage, and resource availability You may also work with the team to expand corporate IT policies and procedures, and generally improve our Cybersecurity posture What you'll get out of it Experience in a wide variety of Systems Administration tasks typically done, in larger organizations, by different specialists The opportunity to participate in all aspects of the development of a enterprise capability, from research to delivery and maintenance Exposure to the automation of systems administration, software build, and delivery tasks An exposure to Cybersecurity and DoD standards such as NIST SP 800-171 and Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) What you'll need In general, you should: Want to participate in all aspects of IT operations from server maintenance to system monitoring and production system support Have a desire to learn new skills and tools as IT operations and Cybersecurity continue to evolve Be interested in Cybersecurity, and automation of IT operations Be a self-starter who actively looks for ways to improve our environment, practices, and infrastructure Solid knowledge of Linux, common Linux tools, and shell scripting – RedHat preferred Exposure to Ansible, configuration automation, and DevOps tools and concepts Experience with, or interest in, configuration and administration of databases and Web applications Exposure to and strong interest in Cybersecurity considerations from a Systems Administration perspective Basic understanding of networking concepts and firewalls Some relevant professional experience, preferably in Systems Administration, from a prior internship or co-op position BS in Computer Science, or a related field; or at least 4 years of relevant experience An ability to occasionally work non-standard hours, e.g. early morning, evening, or weekend, to support maintenance activities Why work at Steelcut Software?
