Job Description
Job Purpose The Global Epidemiology Team provides scientific and strategic leadership in developing and executing real-world evidence strategies to inform drug development across all phases of development. In this role you work across the matrix to support key functions, including but not limited to Clinical Development, Regulatory, and Safety. This includes the development and implementation of a range of epidemiologic studies and measurement strategies in support of the disease area strategy, investigational assets and marketed products. This position provides leadership through strategic and technical input into programs through epidemiologist contributions on asset-level teams, such as the Medicine Development Team (MDT), Clinical Development Team (CMT), and Safety Review Team (SRT), and through agenda-drive participation at GSK governance bodies. Key Responsibilities: Accountable for the epidemiology program for at least one asset or disease area, including proposing and negotiating program content and budget with matrix leaders. This includes developing a Global Epidemiology Plan and may include leading a cross-functional team. Liaising with relevant stakeholders (e.g., Clinical, Safety, Regulatory, etc.) to understand, clarify and work to bridge the key evidence gaps and translate gaps into epidemiology program strategy Provide expert epidemiological insights to asset matrix teams (e.g., Clinical Development Team, Safety Review Team, Medicine/Vaccines Development Team. Lead and oversee complex epidemiological studies and negotiate new partnerships. Identify and build new opportunities, methods, and external partnerships for assets or disease areas. Lead departmental initiatives driving innovative solutions through evaluation and creation of tools, methodologies, or processes. Manage and mentor junior staff, complementary workers, or research assistants, fostering their development. Represent GSK in scientific interactions with internal governance bodies, external regulators, and at international conferences. Plan and coordinate scientific dissemination of epidemiology data, including authoring regulatory documents, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations at national and international meetings. Partner with external groups conducting epidemiological studies globally and manage external collaborations. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Doctoral degree (PhD., ScD or DrPH) in epidemiology (preferred) or a relevant discipline (i.e. health services research, health outcomes research, public health, statistics, or pharmaceutical sciences) 5+ years of Epidemiology experience 3+ years of experience in drug and clinical development process 3+ years of experience with real world databases including but not limited to claims, electronic health records and national registers Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Understanding of regulations relevant to application of epidemiology to clinical development and safety Experience operating in a matrix environment with independent delivery of increasingly complex epidemiological studies including regulatory requirements. Demonstrated epidemiological expertise and developing the ability to influence key internal (matrix leaders) and external (regulators) stakeholders specifically around scientifically robust and strategic approaches to delivering epidemiological science to answer key asset challenges. Ability to work well within a global and matrix environment, balance priorities, and handle multiple tasks through good planning, project administration, and organization skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently to develop credibility with colleagues within and outside Epidemiology, as well as interact effectively in multi-disciplinary matrix teams to influence decisions. Problem-solver; ability to see solutions to complex, unique situations where the epidemiological principles need to be applied.
