Position Overview
The Associate – Mergers & Acquisitions will play a key execution role within the Investment Banking team, independently managing workstreams across live transactions and supporting senior bankers in deal origination, execution, and closure. The role demands strong financial acumen, leadership in managing analysts, and hands-on involvement in valuation, structuring, and client management across M&A transactions including buy-side, sell-side, mergers, divestitures, and strategic partnerships.
The Associate will act as a critical link between clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders, ensuring seamless execution of mandates in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Execution & Deal Management
- Lead execution workstreams for M&A transactions across buy-side, sell-side, mergers, divestitures, and strategic advisory assignments
- Manage end-to-end deal lifecycle from pitch phase, mandate execution, negotiation, to closure
- Coordinate effectively with senior management, clients, investors, and advisors to ensure timely execution of transactions
- Drive transaction progress while ensuring adherence to timelines and deliverables
Financial Modeling & Valuation
- Build, review, and refine advanced financial models including integrated operating models and valuation frameworks
- Perform valuation using DCF, trading comparables, and precedent transaction methodologies with independent judgment
- Conduct scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, and investment return evaluation to support deal decision-making
- Review and guide analysts on model accuracy, assumptions, and outputs
Deal Structuring & Strategic Advisory
- Support structuring of M&A transactions including deal architecture, consideration structures, and synergy evaluation
- Assist in negotiation of commercial terms and support drafting of transaction strategies
- Evaluate financial feasibility and strategic fit of potential transactions
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, investors, and transaction counterparties
- Lead management discussions, presentations, and deal updates with stakeholders
- Ensure strong relationship management throughout the transaction lifecycle
Pitchbooks, Marketing & Deal Documentation
- Oversee preparation of pitchbooks, teasers, and information memorandums (IMs)
- Ensure high-quality storytelling, financial accuracy, and presentation standards in all marketing materials
- Review transaction documents prepared by analysts for quality and consistency
Due Diligence & Execution Support
- Manage financial, legal, tax, and commercial due diligence processes
- Oversee virtual data room management and ensure structured documentation flow
- Track due diligence queries and ensure timely resolution with stakeholders
Team Leadership & MIS Reporting
- Supervise and mentor analysts in financial modeling, research, and presentation preparation
- Maintain deal pipelines, MIS reports, and transaction tracking dashboards
- Ensure accurate documentation of deal progress, milestones, and internal reporting
Candidate Profile
- Qualified CA / MBA (Finance) / CFA from a reputed institution
- 1–5 years of experience in investment banking, M&A advisory, transaction advisory, or consulting
- Strong expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and deal execution
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and financial analysis tools
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple transactions in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment
Professional Exposure
This role offers significant exposure to live M&A transactions, complex deal structuring, valuation assignments, and direct client interactions. The Associate will independently manage execution responsibilities while contributing to strategic decision-making, building a strong foundation for progression into senior investment banking roles such as Senior Associate and Vice President.
