Position: Accounting & Payroll Officer (Part-Time)
Organization: Georgian Bay Land Trust
Location: Hybrid - Toronto, ON, or a community near our operating area along the eastern shore of Georgian Bay (Midland, Parry Sound, Muskoka)
- Reports to: Finance & Operations Manager
- Position Type: Part-Time - Approximately 16-24 hours/week

Through land conservation, stewardship, and community engagement, we work to safeguard critical habitats and preserve the natural beauty of the area for generations to come.
Role Purpose
The Accounting & Payroll Officer is responsible for day‑to‑day accounting operations, transactional processing, payroll administration, and month‑end close activities. The role supports accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls under the oversight of the Finance & Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Month-End Close
- Record journal entries and complete month‑end close activities
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
- Maintain accrual, prepaid, and grant schedules
- Maintain fixed asset register and record depreciation
- Prepare GST/HST rebate calculations and supporting documentation
Payments & Cash Administration (Treasury Support)
- Process vendor payments and employee reimbursements
- Prepare payment runs in accordance with approval policies
- Ensure payments are properly documented and recorded
- Monitor account balances and report cash requirements to management
Payroll Administration
- Process payroll and statutory remittances
- Allocate payroll costs to programs and grants as directed
- Reconcile payroll accounts monthly
- Software or payroll provider experience (Ceridian)
Audit & Reporting Support
- Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation
- Prepare schedules for internal reporting and year‑end audit
- Support donor and grant reporting as required
Qualifications & Skills
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in accounting or bookkeeping, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong experience with transaction processing and payroll
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills.
- Commitment to GBLT’s conservation mission.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with month-end close and fixed assets accounting
- Experience working in a not‑for‑profit or charitable organization
- Familiarity with Financial Edge or other Blackbaud financial systems
Compensation & Benefits
- This is a part‑time position compensated on an hourly basis, with an expected commitment of approximately 16–24 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible, with increased availability required during month‑end and audit periods. Hours may be structured as three full days per week or half‑days spread across the week.
- The anticipated compensation range is $25–$32 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
