About For Our Kids
For Our Kids (FOK) is a grassroots network of parents, grandparents and guardians across Canada advocating for climate justice.
We are from diverse backgrounds and experiences, united by our concern for our children’s future and determined to take action to reduce the impacts of climate change. Our goal is to build a powerful constituency for more urgent climate action, motivated by love for all kids and future generations.
We include social justice actions in our definition of climate action because climate breakdown does not impact everyone equally; our kids can't have a more just and resilient world without also addressing colonization, racism, gender inequity, ableism and poverty.
Overview Of Role
We are looking for a creative storyteller and communicator who is passionate about grassroots organizing and the challenge of reaching and engaging with new audiences, especially busy parents and caregivers. This role focuses on telling the stories of the incredible work happening within our local teams and using strategic messaging to reach parents across Canada who are concerned about how the climate crisis impacts their children’s well-being.
You will support the implementation of our communications strategy by translating complex climate topics into accessible, values-based narratives and will support campaigns and actions with creative communications using all our digital platforms. You'll support the creation of compelling digital content and visuals, the management of our social media channels, and the website revamp to empower our parent organizers.
This is a unique opportunity to build your skills in storytelling and digital communications while making a tangible impact on grassroots climate action and community resilience. While we work collaboratively as a team, this role will work closely with the Communications Manager to support content design for our local teams.
Job Description And Duties
- Content creation and storytelling for digital formats, including articles, blog posts, and social media.
- Use narrative tools to reach out to new parent audiences, focusing on children's health, wellbeing, and a climate-safe future.
- Support for the ongoing website revamp, focusing on content and user experience for parent organizers.
- Design compelling digital assets, including social media posts (Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn), blog posts, and short-form videos (Reels etc.).
- Provide communications support for parent-led actions, such as the "Hot Classrooms, Cool Solutions" or Electric School Bus campaigns. This can include the development of visual assets such as infographics and short videos.
- Communication support for our community teams; event amplification, storytelling and media management.
- Participate in weekly team calls and use Slack, Google Workspace, and Nationbuilder for internal coordination.
Summary Of Qualifications And Experience
The successful candidate will have a good combination of the following:
- Eligibility: This is a Canada Summer Jobs placement. To be eligible, candidates must be aged 15–30, have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN), and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred.
