Chemical Manufacturing Engineer II
Location: Texarkana, TX
Compensation
Salary Range: $76,000 – $114,000
(final compensation based on experience and qualifications)
Overview
We are seeking a Chemical Manufacturing Engineer to support production operations in a highly regulated manufacturing environment focused on energetic materials and munitions production. This role applies chemical engineering principles to improve, sustain, and optimize manufacturing processes while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. The engineer will work cross‑functionally with production, safety, quality, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues, support scale‑ups, and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily technical support to production by troubleshooting process and equipment issues
- Support new product introductions, process transfers, and production scale-ups
- Analyze production data to identify root causes of inefficiencies and implement corrective actions
- Develop and maintain process documentation including SOPs, work instructions, and validation records
- Develop and optimize chemical and mechanical manufacturing processes
- Optimize batching and slurry dilution parameters to maintain proper chemical bonding and stabilizer concentrations
- Adjust process parameters based on incoming raw material variability
- Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM), HAZOP studies, and risk assessments
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ATF, and Department of Defense safety standards
- Lead or support Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives
- Evaluate and implement new technologies or automation to improve safety, reliability, and productivity
Required Skills
- Strong foundation in chemical process design, thermodynamics, and reaction engineering
- Experience with chemical batching, coating, colorant processes, felting, and molding operations
- Wastewater treatment system experience preferred
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SPC, and root cause analysis
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to hazardous or energetic materials
- Experience with engineering software such as Minitab, MATLAB, AutoCAD, or similar tools
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lead projects and work cross-functionally in a manufacturing environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (required)
- Master’s degree (preferred)
- 3+ years of chemical or process engineering experience in manufacturing environments
- Experience in munitions, defense manufacturing, or energetic materials strongly preferred
- Experience handling explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics, or hazardous chemicals highly desired
