Job Description
Our client, a home builder, located in London, Ontario, is seeking a Finance and Accounting Manager.
Reporting directly to the Vice President and VP of Operations, the Finance and Accounting Manager oversees all activities within the Finance Department, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, cash flow management, and full cycle accounting across multiple entities. The role is responsible for month-end and year-end financial activities, financial reporting, and maintaining accurate and compliant financial records. Through strong analytical thinking and sound financial oversight, this position supports informed decision-making while ensuring financial visibility and stability across the organization.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Team Development
- Maintain a high-functioning finance and accounting team
- Evaluate and implement best practices for finance and accounting processes and internal controls
- Develop scalable, reliable processes to support a variety of businesses and ongoing growth
- Foster an environment conducive to high performance, collaboration, and engagement
- Manage accounting, payroll, tax, and close activities where required due to complexity or risk
- Oversee cash disbursements, intercompany transfers, including EFT payments.
Financial Reporting
- Maintain a robust and efficient financial reporting system producing accurate, comprehensive, and timely monthly reporting to enable the management team to operate effectively
- Prepare, review, and finalize monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Provide accurate budgets, financial analyses, and forecasts to support operational and strategic decision-making
- Monitor and report on cash flow performance and near-term cash forecasts
- Track actual versus budget and provide variance analysis at the entity and project level
- Drive operational efficiencies and data integrity through systems integration and enhancing user knowledge
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
- Prepare and review indirect taxes (HST/GST), rebates, and remittances.
- Prepare year-end working papers and act as primary liaison with auditors and tax advisors
- Continually assess the company’s risk management approach, identify target risk levels, and recommend strategies to manage risk accordingly
Forecasting and Strategic Planning
- Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets, and reporting, including coordination across corporations, limited partnerships and trusts as required
- Manage multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, and reconciliations
- Evaluate and advise on the financial impact of long-range planning, and the introduction of new programs/strategies
- Prepare detailed financial models/analysis to assist with capital expenditure, acquisition and other management decision-making
- Interface with division managers and other key executives
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek to deliver a full range of business solutions
- Work closely with senior management to maintain positive and trusted relationships with key customers, suppliers, and the community
- Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities
- Provide recommendations to enhance financial performance and business opportunities in the areas of corporate structure, treasury, and tax planning
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners including financial institutions, auditors, insurance providers and others
QualificationsEducation
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- CPA designation preferred but not required
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
Experience
- 5 to 8 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including full-cycle accounting and financial reporting
- Experience overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end and year-end close processes
- Experience working in multi-entity environments and managing intercompany transactions considered an asset
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and variance reporting
- Previous experience leading or mentoring accounting staff is strongly preferred
Technical Skills
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
- Experience using Smartsheet or similar workflow and project management tools considered an asset
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
- Strong understanding of internal controls, tax compliance, and financial reporting requirements
