Job Description

Role Overview

Join the FBI as a special agent and put an accounting or finance background to work in a mission-driven federal law enforcement role. This opportunity is exempt from the federal civilian hiring freeze.

Rather than simply using your technical background in a desk-based finance function, you will apply it to investigative work that supports national security and public safety. The position is designed to strengthen your analytical capabilities through specialized training, hands-on casework, and exposure to advanced tools and high-performing teams.

You will help pursue matters involving cyber threats, terrorism, fraud, and other evolving risks. Along the way, you will develop leadership capability, sharpen financial analysis and reconciliation skills, and work in an environment that supports professional growth and employee well-being.

Major Duties

  • Lead and support investigations related to possible violations of federal law, cybersecurity incidents, and threats to public safety.
  • Apply sound judgment, flexibility, and initiative when handling complex investigative requirements.
  • Build and sustain working relationships with federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international law enforcement partners.
  • Keep a sufficient level of physical fitness to remain ready for law enforcement responsibilities.

How to Apply

Submit your interest through the FBIJobs Careers website by selecting the application option and following the step-by-step process. You must complete every section of the form and attach all required documents for your application to be considered complete.

Required documents include a resume that clearly lists relevant experience with start and end dates. The resume must be no longer than two pages. Additional supporting documents may include college transcripts if education is being used to qualify, or if a positive education requirement applies. Veterans should provide DD 214, while disabled veterans should provide DD 214, SF-15, and a VA letter dated 1991 or later.

Please follow the document-upload instructions provided in the application portal.

Salary

The pay range for this position is $103,236 to $133,200. Compensation may vary based on base pay, locality, and availability pay.

Equal Opportunity Notice

The FBI is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will be considered without discrimination based on color, race, religion, national origin, marital status, parental status, physical or mental disability, genetic information, age (40 or older), sex, pregnancy or related conditions, or any other nonmerit factor unless otherwise authorized by law.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate possible breaches of federal law, cybersecurity issues, and public safety threats.
  • Use sound judgment and adaptability to meet shifting investigative needs.
  • Maintain cooperative working ties with domestic and international law enforcement organizations.
  • Stay physically prepared to carry out law enforcement duties.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. citizen.
  • You must be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance.
  • You must be willing to travel when the role requires it.
  • You must satisfy the FBI’s employment eligibility standards.
  • You need a bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in accounting or a related area such as business administration, finance, or forensic accounting, from a U.S.-accredited college or university.
  • College transcripts are required to verify all degrees.

Perks & benefits

  • Specialized training and real-world investigative experience.
  • Access to advanced technology and tools.
  • Opportunities to build leadership skills and grow professionally.
  • Supportive work environment and a robust benefits package.
