Position Overview

Reporting into the Director, Data Risk & Governance Reporting the Senior Data Risk Consultant supports the execution of CIBC Mellon’s data risk capability by contributing to the monitoring, assessment, and reporting of data-related risks in alignment with the Data & Records Governance Policy.

This role enables consistent application of governance practices and supports visibility into data risk, quality, and control effectiveness across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Support second line oversight across core data risk domains, ensuring alignment with the Data & Records Governance Policy and maintaining structured documentation of risks, controls, and ownership.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring enterprise data risk and quality metrics; support ongoing data quality monitoring, incident tracking, and control effectiveness to ensure compliance with policy requirements.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports on data risk exposure, quality performance, incidents, and governance adoption, providing actionable insights to leadership and governance forums.
  • Coordinate data risk assessments and control reviews with business units, validating risk management practices and ensuring control alignment with policy expectations.
  • Promote adoption of policy-aligned data practices across business units, including data handling, data security, DLP awareness, and governance participation.
  • Contribute to the advancement of scalable data risk capabilities through documentation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify patterns and areas requiring attention through data issue and resolution monitoring, escalating risks as needed.
  • Support business engagement and provide guidance on governance practices to foster compliance and drive program adoption.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years in data governance, risk, or controls (experience in regulated environments preferred).

Specific Knowledge & Skills (not Preferred Or An Asset)

  • Understanding of data lifecycle management, governance, and risk concepts.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and dashboard development skills.
  • Experience with regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities

Job Specific Competencies

  • The base salary range for this position is between $84,000 - $126,000 dependent on relevant experience.
