Job Description

BL Lighting is hiring a Smart Lighting & Controls Technical Support Specialist to support commercial, architectural, retail, and entertainment lighting control systems.

This is primarily an office-based technical support role, not an installation role. The right person will be comfortable learning software, reviewing technical drawings and documentation, troubleshooting systems, and communicating professionally with clients by phone, Zoom, and email.

We will train on our products, systems, internal workflows, and project standards. However, this is not a general customer service or administrative role. We are looking for someone with strong technical instincts, clear communication skills, and the ability to figure out how systems work.

What you’ll do

  • Support lighting control projects from product configuration through troubleshooting and client support
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, wiring diagrams, product manuals, and system documentation
  • Communicate directly with clients by phone, Zoom, and email to gather information, explain next steps, and resolve technical issues
  • Help contractors, consultants, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal team members clarify technical requirements
  • Test, configure, and troubleshoot lighting control products, software, and related systems
  • Coordinate with manufacturers and suppliers to confirm product details, system requirements, and technical solutions
  • Track open technical items and proactively follow up until issues are resolved
  • Assist with occasional bench testing, mockups, or field support when required

What we’re looking for

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys figuring out technical systems, learning new software, and helping people solve problems.

You may come from lighting, lighting controls, AV, automation, low-voltage, electrical, networking, building systems, commissioning, or another technical support background.

Lighting or control-system experience is strongly preferred, but we are also open to candidates from related technical fields who are highly technology-savvy and can learn systems quickly.

Required qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in a technical role such as lighting, lighting controls, AV, automation, electrical, low-voltage, networking, building systems, commissioning, or technical support
  • Strong technical intuition and the ability to learn new software, systems, interfaces, and tools quickly
  • Comfortable troubleshooting technical problems in a structured and logical way
  • Able to read or interpret technical drawings, schematics, specifications, product manuals, or system documentation
  • Professional spoken and written English
  • Comfortable communicating with clients every day by phone, Zoom, and email
  • Comfortable proactively calling clients, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal team members to gather information and solve problems
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to follow up on open items
  • Able to work full-time in person

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with lighting controls, dimming systems, smart lighting, architectural lighting, or entertainment lighting
  • Experience with AV systems, automation platforms, smart building systems, security systems, networking, or low-voltage systems
  • Exposure to CAD, AGi32, commissioning, electrical drawings, control system documentation, or technical support tools
  • Experience supporting contractors, consultants, integrators, sales agents, or end users in a technical environment

What success looks like in this role

A successful person in this role can listen to a client’s issue, ask the right technical questions, review the relevant drawings or documentation, test possible solutions, coordinate with the right people, and follow through until the issue is resolved.

You do not need to know every BL Lighting product on day one. You do need to be technically curious, comfortable with software and systems, and able to communicate clearly and professionally.
