About the Opportunity
Our public sector client is seeking a Municipal Clerk to step into a key leadership role supporting effective governance and democratic processes within a growing municipality. This position sits at the center of Council operations, acting as a trusted advisor and ensuring legislative compliance while fostering transparency and accountability across the organization.
You will lead a dedicated team responsible for coordinating Council and Committee activities, shaping policy development, and supporting civic engagement initiatives. Your Responsibilities
- You’ll lead and oversee legislative processes for Council, Committees, and advisory bodies, ensuring compliance with municipal and provincial requirements.
- You’ll act as a strategic advisor to Council and senior leadership on governance, procedures, and legislative matters.
- You’ll manage the preparation and delivery of Council agendas, reports, and official records.
- You’ll oversee records management, privacy compliance, and freedom of information processes.
- You’ll guide policy and by-law development while ensuring effective and transparent decision-making.
- You’ll lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Clerk’s division team.
Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive experience in a municipal Clerk’s function, including 3+ years in a leadership role
- Accredited Ontario Municipal Clerk certification, or eligibility to obtain
- Strong knowledge of municipal legislation including the Municipal Act, MFIPPA, and Municipal Elections Act
- Demonstrated political acuity and ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across all levels
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop and manage teams effectively
