Your Opportunity:

As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the experienced peri-operative Operating Room Technician (ORT) will be responsible for providing peri-operative patient care in accordance with CLPNA practice standards. The incumbent will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role as an integral part of the surgical team. The nurse is responsible to provide safe care throughout the patient stay in the surgical suite. The nurse promotes the professional role and evaluates their professional education and clinical practice standards. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The ORT is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care during the peri-operative patient experience in accordance with hospital policies and standards. The incumbent will work with patients during peri-operative phase of care and must demonstrate a professional, positive attitude, excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills when performing scrubbing and circulating duties in the surgical environment. It is expected that the ORT is able to contribute to quality initiatives and promotes a professional work environment at all times. The Main OR (DTC) is comprised of 13 theatres primarily focused on general surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery including arthroplasty, plastic, maxillofacial, urology, thoracic, and vascular procedures. Theatres are digitally integrated for performing minimally invasive surgery and this is a level 2 trauma center with over 10,000 surgeries done annually. This is a busy and fast paced environment. The first 9-12 months of this opportunity will be scheduled at full-time hours to complete the requisite orientation.

You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Certification as an Operating Room Technician (ORT) Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) Current CPR (BCLS_HCP) 3-5 years current OR experience Knowledge of advanced minimally invasive surgery (MIS) Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment Ability to demonstrate communications skills that promote respect and a positive team environment Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift, push and pull up to 20 lbs of force Incumbent should have effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
