The Lois Hole Hospital for Women provides expert patient care for women of all ages and in all stages of life located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) one of Alberta’s largest and longest-serving hospitals. Centrally located in Edmonton’s downtown core, the RAH serves a diverse community, including some of our province’s most vulnerable populations. In this Registered Nurse position working with obstetrical patients, you will have the opportunity to use your advanced clinical skills to perform a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. As the successful candidate, you demonstrate a professional attitude while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, have a thorough understanding of the antepartum period, the labour and delivery process and the immediate postpartum period, and possesses extensive knowledge of newborn assessment and breastfeeding. You have experience handling obstetrical emergencies and caring for high-risk women with obstetrical complications and/or medical conditions complicated by pregnancy. The primary responsibility in the Labour & Delivery, Obstetrical Operating Room, and Assessment/Induction Room with responsibility to provide cross coverage to Antepartum as required.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of two (2) years of obstetrics nursing experience in the last five (5) years. Advanced studies in Obstetrics, including fetal monitoring or midwifery, and certifications in Newborn Resuscitation, Breastfeeding, Trauma Informed Care and Fetal Health Surveillance are required. A successful medication exam must be completed following interview. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, establishing respectful relationships with patients, families, staff, and physicians. Strong interpersonal communication, critical thinking, organizational, collaboration, and conflict management skills are essential. Must thrive in a fast-paced, high stress environment. Experience with Connect Care and Connect Care Stork is preferred. Proficiency in MS Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel required. Meet Physical Demands Requirements due to the unit's emergent nature, including: Significant walking and standing. Seated work requiring substantial arm and/or leg force. Regular handling of weights: occasionally 51-100 lbs, frequently 21-50 lbs, and constantly 0-20 lbs. Pushing/pulling >180-250lbs at times. Assistance to doctors during deliveries, patient handling, and transferring patients on/off beds in emergency situations - all Heavy Physical Demand at times. Helping patients ambulate post-epidural. Emptying and moving of linen bags.
Preferred Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice will be considered. Operating room and post-anesthetic recovery room experience. Preference will be given to applicants with recent experience in a tertiary care facility Obstetrics Department.
