Job Description
ZING is hiring on behalf of an established fire protection client serving commercial customers across the Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC area. We’re looking for a Lead Fire Alarm Technician with strong troubleshooting skills, inspection experience, and ideally exposure to special hazards systems (FM-200 strongly preferred).
What You’ll Be Doing
- Test and inspect fire alarm systems in commercial buildings
- Respond to service requests, diagnose malfunctions, and repair/replace equipment to bring systems into compliance
- Perform testing and inspections per NFPA and local code standards
- Prepare accurate, detailed inspection and service reports
- Participate in an on-call rotation as scheduled
What We’re Looking For
- Valid driver’s license with 3 or fewer points
- 3+ years licensed driving experience
- 2+ years hands-on fire alarm experience (lead-level experience preferred)
- Strong troubleshooting and system repair skills (preferred, not required)
- NICET certification preferred (not required, but definitely a plus)
- Experience with special hazard suppression systems inspection/repair a big plus (FM-200 and Halon)
- Ability to test/service common fire alarm brands: Simplex, Notifier, Fire-Lite
- Comfortable on ladders (6–12 ft), lifts, and working in tight spaces
- Able to lift up to 70 lbs and work overhead
- Clear communicator with customers, strong documentation and report-writing skills
- Highly organized with service tickets and required paperwork
Compensation
- Hourly pay, based on experience
- Potential quarterly bonuses
- Time and a half for hours worked between 6 pm and 5 am
- 4-hour minimum at time and a half for emergency service calls
- Double time (4-hour minimum) for emergency calls on recognized holidays, plus 8 hours of holiday pay
