About The Role
The TD Insurance AI2 team is at the forefront of leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to enhance business insights and decision-making processes. This role focuses on developing, maintaining, and calibrating predictive models that inform risk assessment, underwriting, and portfolio management within TD Insurance. The successful candidate will join the Underwriting Analytics function, a multidisciplinary team comprising actuarial analysts and underwriting specialists dedicated to refining underwriting models, rules, and guidelines. The primary responsibilities include utilizing state-of-the-art predictive modeling techniques such as Generalized Linear Models (GLM), Gradient Boosting Machines (GBM), and other machine learning algorithms to improve segmentation models and underwriting criteria for automobile and residential insurance products in the Canadian market.
The role demands a proactive approach to sharing expertise on mathematical and analytical concepts, inspiring the broader analytics team to adopt innovative solutions, and staying current with emerging trends in data science and AI. The candidate will be instrumental in providing insights that drive growth and profitability, developing tools to monitor portfolio evolution, and collaborating with various departments including underwriting, pricing, product development, risk management, and client service. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience in an industry setting, preferably within insurance or financial services
- Proficiency in programming languages such as SAS, VBA, Python, R, or similar tools
- Strong understanding of modern machine learning techniques and their practical applications
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to make sound decisions based on data insights
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Highly adaptable to changing business needs and environments
- Experience in developing and maintaining predictive models and risk assessment tools
- Knowledge of insurance industry practices and regulatory guidelines (asset)
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of French is an asset
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine segmentation models and underwriting rules for automobile and residential insurance products using advanced predictive modeling techniques
- Provide expertise on mathematical and statistical concepts to support the broader analytics team and promote the adoption of AI and machine learning solutions across the organization
- Stay informed about emerging trends and advancements in data science, machine learning, and AI to continuously enhance analytical capabilities
- Leverage data insights to improve understanding of client risk profiles, profitability, and portfolio trends
- Execute and present comprehensive underwriting analyses to support growth, risk management, and profitability objectives
- Design and maintain tools to monitor portfolio evolution and identify emerging risks or opportunities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Underwriting, Strategy, Pricing, Product Development, Risk Management, and Customer Service to align analytical initiatives with business needs
- Document methodologies, findings, and recommendations clearly and effectively for stakeholders
- Contribute to a data-driven culture within TD Insurance by sharing best practices and innovative solutions
