About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our Space Reliability Engineering team at Spire. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the reliable operation of our satellite constellation, ground stations, and supporting software systems. You will work within a small, agile team to develop and enhance tools and systems that optimize satellite fleet efficiency, monitor system performance, and facilitate anomaly detection and resolution. Your expertise will contribute to building automated operational workflows, data platforms for flexible storage and analytics, and monitoring systems that uphold our commitment to high reliability standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of space technology and software engineering, impacting global data services and supporting critical operations in space.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering
• Proficiency in Python programming, including system development and data integration
• Experience with Linux operating systems, Bash scripting, and basic system administration
• Strong understanding of data analysis tools and techniques
• Experience developing and managing containers for development and production environments
• Familiarity with cloud data backends such as S3, RDS, Postgres, Redis, and Elasticsearch
• Experience with Databricks or similar data processing platforms
• Knowledge of data visualization libraries in Python
• Experience implementing monitoring and alerting systems using Grafana, Prometheus, or Nagios
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and translate user needs into technical requirements
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Develop operational automation tools for mission execution, anomaly detection, and resolution processes
• Create and maintain a scalable data platform supporting flexible storage and analytics capabilities
• Analyze telemetry data from ground and space assets to ensure optimal performance and reliability
• Maintain configuration control of all assets and oversee the rollout of software updates and configuration changes
• Design and implement monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and address system issues
• Collaborate with multiple teams to gather requirements and iterate on system enhancements
• Ensure compliance with security and safety standards for space operations and data handling
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system robustness and operational efficiency
