Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (Flextime available; 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM for in-person training days)
About the Role: Are you passionate about workforce development and empowering industry professionals? The Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA) is seeking a driven Training Director to lead, schedule, and track all training programs. In alignment with the strategic goals of our Association and Foundation, you will be the driving force behind our educational initiatives—from coordinating hands-on courses to developing cutting-edge curriculum for the ship repair industry.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Event Coordination
- End-to-End Course Management: Coordinate all VSRA training courses, including managing instructor schedules, setting up equipment, compiling materials, issuing certificates, and handling evaluations.
- Communication & Promotion: Maintain the training calendar, update website course information, and actively promote student registrations to individual Members.
- Financial Oversight: Generate training invoices in QuickBooks, assist with A/R collections, manage the education budget, and conduct annual course cost analyses.
- Digital & Remote Training: Coordinate remote and overseas VSRA courses, manage vendor contracts, and monitor online training help tickets to recommend system improvements.
- Committee Support: Represent training initiatives at the Safety & Environmental Committee, SMB, and OSHA Partnership meetings.
- Association Support: Assist with major off-site functions, including monthly Membership luncheons, the VSRF Golf Tournament, and the Safety & Health Seminar.
Training Development
- Curriculum Design: Develop high-quality course content utilizing research, subject matter experts, and publicly available materials.
- Strategic Partnerships: Forge and maintain strong relationships with educational institutions and local workforce entities to jointly conduct and tailor industry-specific training.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate potential new course offerings using Membership survey data and update all VSRA-regulated programs annually (including Online Safety Orientation and WAF Training).
- Marketing Integration: Assist the communications team in developing engaging course marketing materials and descriptions.
- Youth Outreach: Assist the Outreach Coordinator in organizing the annual VSRF Ship Repair Digital Innovation Competition.
What You Bring to the Table
- Communication & Organization: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to research, compile, summarize, and prioritize tasks.
- Tech Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and the willingness to learn new software and website interfaces.
- Professional Demeanor: Ability to represent VSRA effectively and collaborate cross-functionally with team members and leadership.
- Logistics: Must possess a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle for local travel.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs to support event and classroom setups.
