Position: Sessional Lecturer (1 Position - CUPE 3902, Unit 2)
EDS263H1F Disability, Inclusion and Education – This course explores the historical and contemporary ways in which societies define and respond to individuals with a broad range of needs, abilities and disabilities. Through an examination of diverse knowledge sources including children's books, poetry, videos, social media, policy documents and academic research, students will learn about the lived experiences of exceptional learners, while promoting understanding, compassion, and pathways for change. Students will also be challenged to examine their own beliefs and practices to ensure they have the language, dispositions, and confidence necessary to promote success and inclusion in a wide variety of settings. Strategies for adapting curriculum and the learning environment to promote inclusion are discussed.
Expected course time: Tuesdays, 3 pm – 6 pm
Expected enrolment cap: 45
Dates of appointment: September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026
Course Modality: In-person, Victoria College campus
Teaching Assistant: There is no TA support
The salary will be as per the CUPE agreement (e.g., September 2026 Sessional Lecturer rate is $9,997.47 including vacation pay).
Requirements
- PhD/EdD in Education or a closely related field (e.g., Disability Studies, Special Education, Curriculum Studies, Inclusive Education, or related disciplines).
- Demonstrated scholarly expertise in disability, inclusion, and education, including historical and contemporary perspectives on disability.
- Proven experience teaching at the university level, with a strong record of undergraduate teaching excellence.
- Strong familiarity with disability studies frameworks (e.g., medical, social, and critical models) and the ability to support critical analysis
- Experience incorporating lived experiences of individuals with disabilities through diverse sources and perspectives.
- Experience designing and assessing multi-modal and applied assignments (e.g., group work, reflective writing, creative projects).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong commitment to inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive teaching, including knowledge of inclusive practices such as UDL.
- Demonstrated qualifications in and commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in
education.
