The Pharmacists Clinic (the Clinic) is an award-winning, innovative patient care clinic located at the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Vancouver campus. At this university-owned, pharmacist-led primary care clinic, staff clinicians provide comprehensive medication management services to patients in respectful collaboration with the patient's care team to optimize patient drug therapy outcomes. Patients come to the Clinic either by referral from their physician or self-referral and tend to be clinically complex. The Clinic does not offer prescription-filling services. Applications are invited from qualified individuals for an 18-month leave-replacement position as a Clinical Pharmacist and Lecturer within the Pharmacists Clinic.

Specific responsibilities at the Clinic include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide care using a standardized comprehensive medication management approach,
  • Provide minor ailment and contraceptive services, administer injections, and order laboratory tests,
  • Develop effective inter-professional relationships with other health care practitioners in the collaborative care of patients,
  • Model professional behaviors and attitudes,
  • Provide a positive environment where students are actively engaged in the learning process,
  • Supervise students on experiential placement at the Clinic,
  • Assess performance and provide feedback to learners,
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of a steady flow of patient referrals to the Clinic,
  • Participate in outreach and community engagement initiatives as part of the Clinic team,
  • Participate in pharmacy practice research, and
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of operational policies and procedures for the Clinic related to service delivery, data privacy, data security, use of technology, and other relevant aspects, to be determined.

The successful candidate is a pharmacist with post-graduate training in pharmacy practice (residency, PharmD or MSc), a license to practice as a full pharmacist in BC, and authorization to administer immunizations (or the ability to become licensed and authorized) by the College of Pharmacists of BC. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years recent experience working in innovative, inter-professional patient care practice settings. A high level of comfort providing care to patients using comprehensive medication management (including motivational interviewing, critical thinking, prioritizing, problem-solving, documentation and follow-up) is required.

A working knowledge of PharmaCare policies and procedures, common drug products (dosage forms, costs, availability), and common nonprescription and natural health products is desired. Experience with patient assessments and technology (including point of care testing equipment, pharmacy software, and electronic medical records) is an asset.

Teaching experience is also required. Teaching responsibilities for the Faculty may change over time, and will be assigned by the Associate Dean, Academic, as determined by the needs of the Faculty. Teaching includes but is not limited to a range of activities including scheduled courses and undergraduate and graduate supervision. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience teaching, mentoring, or as a preceptor to pharmacy learners. An interest in pharmacy practice research is desirable. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical environment. The ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively, both orally and in writing is required.

The expected salary range is $150,000 - $175,000 CAD. Salary is negotiable, commensurate with experience and is subject to final budgetary approval.
