Job Description

Senior Manager, Accounting (GovCon)

We are partnering with a well-established, large-scale government services organization seeking a Senior Manager of Accounting to support a complex, multi-program environment. This role is highly visible, working closely with finance leadership and operational teams to drive accurate reporting, compliance, and continuous improvement across the close process.

The Opportunity

This position will lead the full close cycle in a government contracting environment, ensuring precision in financial reporting, cost allocations, and audit readiness. The role requires a strong operator—someone who can execute independently while also elevating processes and controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes end-to-end within a GovCon ERP environment
  • Manage cost pools, indirect rates, and allocations in compliance with government contracting requirements
  • Oversee billing, accruals, reconciliations, and journal entries across multiple programs
  • Support and manage audits (including incurred cost submissions, project audits, SOX, DCAA, etc.)
  • Analyze close results, identify risks, and implement corrective actions
  • Drive financial controls, governance, and audit readiness in a regulated environment
  • Partner with FP&A to support forecasting, reforecasting, and long-range planning
  • Develop and maintain complex Excel-based models and reporting tools
  • Serve as a key advisor to finance, program, and systems teams
  • Lead, review, and develop accounting staff while ensuring accuracy and timeliness of deliverables
  • Identify and implement process improvements across accounting and reporting workflows

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 8–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including government contracting (required)
  • Strong experience with Costpoint (or similar GovCon ERP)
  • Deep knowledge of cost pools, indirect rates, and allocation methodologies
  • Proven ability to independently manage the close process
  • Solid GAAP foundation and strong technical accounting judgment
  • Experience supporting audits and compliance-driven environments

Preferred

  • CPA or equivalent certification
  • Experience in large, complex, multi-entity GovCon environments
  • Exposure to forecasting tools such as TM1 or similar platforms
  • Background in systems optimization or process transformation initiatives

Why This Role Stands Out

  • High-impact position with visibility to senior leadership
  • Opportunity to influence process improvements and scalability
  • Complex, intellectually engaging GovCon environment
