Job Description
Senior Accountant (Nonprofit) – Washington, DC
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support a dynamic nonprofit organization in Washington, DC. This role is responsible for managing key accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
- Manage accounts payable, cash receipts, and disbursements
- Perform bank and payroll reconciliations (including 941, W-2, W-3)
- Process journal entries in compliance with US GAAP
- Assist with audits and maintain supporting documentation
- Oversee payroll processing and related account reconciliations
- Ensure strong internal controls and accurate financial reporting
- Identify process improvements and support financial operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of technical accounting experience (nonprofit required)
- 2+ years grant accounting experience required
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and nonprofit accounting
- Experience with audits, revenue recognition, and reconciliations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables)
- Experience with NetSuite preferred
