Law Clerk – Federal Government Litigation Support

Location: Washington, DC

Position Type: Long-Term Federal Government Contract

Work Schedule: Hybrid / Telework Eligible (Must live local to Washington, DC and be available to report to the Washington, DC office for meetings and as needed

A Federal Government agency is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Law Clerk to provide litigation and legal program support to Attorney Advisors and supervisory attorneys supporting complex federal legal matters. This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional interested in meaningful federal litigation work involving immigration, criminal, civil, fraud, violent crime, human trafficking, narcotics, and other high-profile legal program areas.

The selected candidate will play a critical role supporting legal analysis, policy review, case management, legal research, and the preparation of legal memoranda and litigation documents in a fast-paced federal environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research and determine the applicability of administrative statutory and regulatory law to assigned matters.
  • Identify potential defenses, violations, causes of action, and legal risks associated with ongoing cases and program initiatives.
  • Analyze statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedent, agency regulations, and legal publications related to complex or precedent-setting assignments.
  • Prepare legal memoranda, briefs, written analyses, draft responses, and other legal work products for attorney review.
  • Support Attorney Advisors with litigation preparation by summarizing pertinent facts, legal issues, and case law.
  • Draft correspondence and legal documents for attorney signature.
  • Review and analyze legislative and regulatory initiatives impacting U.S. Attorney Offices (USAOs) and related federal programs.
  • Assist with policy implementation and development of legal guidance supporting federal legal operations and program requirements.
  • Monitor and track litigation deadlines, hearings, filings, and case-related activities.
  • Coordinate with attorneys and support staff to obtain relevant records, files, data, and case information.
  • Remain current on applicable federal, state, and local laws, including civil and criminal procedures and emerging legal developments.
  • Alert attorneys to potential legal, procedural, or compliance concerns identified during case reviews and data analysis.

Preferred Areas of Experience

Experience supporting matters involving:

  • Immigration litigation (including Habeas Corpus and Denaturalization)
  • Criminal and civil litigation
  • Fraud investigations
  • Human trafficking
  • Violent crime
  • Narcotics and drug-related matters
  • Federal legal and regulatory compliance

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required
  • Active state bar license preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional litigation experience
  • Experience supporting immigration litigation is highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to make sound decisions under tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain the required federal background investigation/adjudication
  • Valid state driver’s license required
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Washington, DC
