Volunteer Journalist - (Washington, DC & Omaha, NE)

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Volunteer Journalist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in journalism, with exceptional writing and communication skills. This role involves researching, writing, and reporting on various topics while adhering to AP style guidelines. The Journalist will also engage in multimedia storytelling, utilizing photography, videography, and social media management to enhance our content.

Duties

• Capture nonprofit and community highlight stories via on-camera or remote video.
• Conduct community interviews, engage with organization leaders, volunteers, and community members to capture compelling stories.
• Write clear, engaging articles that adhere to AP style guidelines.
• Edit and proofread content for clarity, grammar, and factual accuracy before publication.
• Collaborate with editors and other journalists to develop story ideas and angles.
• Capture high-quality photographs and videos to accompany written pieces.
• Manage social media platforms by sharing articles and engaging with the audience.
• Fact-check all information to maintain the highest journalistic standards.
• Participate in brainstorming sessions for new content ideas and initiatives.
• Stay updated on current events and trends relevant to assigned beats.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred.
• Strong writing skills with a proven ability to produce high-quality content under tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in AP style; familiarity with copy editing and proofreading techniques is essential.
• Experience in photography and videography is highly desirable.
• Solid understanding of social media management strategies and tools.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
• Strong research skills with attention to detail; ability to verify facts effectively.
