Chief Aerospace Safety Office’s (CASO) Boeing Global Services (BGS) Safety Team is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join our BGS-G Safety Engineering Team, focused on providing system safety engineering capability for the BGS Government (BGS-G) portfolio. The position will be based in either Berkeley (St Louis), MO or Mesa, AZ.
Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate (Level 2) and Experienced (Level 3) System Safety Engineer.

In this impactful role, you will join a team of safety engineering professionals and perform safety initiatives across all of BGSs government programs, including F/A-18, F-15, F-22, C-17, AH-64, CH-47, KC-135, KC-46, and numerous other defense platforms and related products. Your expertise will also extend to critical government services engineering efforts related to fleet in-service / sustainment support, fleet modernization, support equipment, and training, ensuring that our fleets maintain the highest safety and reliability standards for our defense customers. As a member of the BGS-G Safety team, you will collaborate with a wide array of cross-functional teams and leaders to develop and implement comprehensive safety strategies which align with Boeings commitment to excellence and innovation.
Primary responsibilities
- Performs and document safety analyses for systems and software
- Analyzes the integration of complex airplane systems and their corresponding airplane-level effects, failure indications, and flight crew actions as part of a system of systems analysis
- Documents safety analyses, hazard mitigation, validation, and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards such as MIL-STD-882E
- Demonstrates safety hazard risk mitigation and control methods to the customer and regulators
- Identifies safety issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirements
- Participates in tests and analyses to verify that systems meet the defined safety requirements
- Resolves multi-functional technical issues
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
- Level 2: 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with aircraft systems (e.g., navigation, avionics, fuel, hydraulics, pneumatic, etc.) including operations and troubleshooting
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):
- Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Working knowledge and experience developing/applying aviation related system safety analysis methods such as System Safety Risk Assessments, Fault-tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA) and Safety Assessment Report (SAR)
- Experience implementing Department of Defense system safety standards MIL STD 882E
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience with aircraft systems including avionics, flight controls, hydraulics, fuel and integrated vehicle management systems
- Experience applying systems engineering principles during the development of complex hardware/software solutions on an aerospace platform

Summary Pay Range:
- Associate (Level 2): $88,400 - $119,600
- Experienced (Level 3): $107,100 - $144,900
