Senior Underwriter – Insurance

Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Underwriter to join our team at GIFT City. The role involves evaluating and underwriting insurance/reinsurance risks, ensuring profitability, maintaining compliance with regulatory guidelines, and supporting business growth initiatives. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, sound underwriting judgment, and experience in handling corporate and specialty insurance portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite new and renewal insurance/reinsurance proposals in line with company underwriting guidelines.
- Analyze financial statements, risk exposure, claims history, and market trends to determine risk acceptability and pricing.
- Structure policy terms, conditions, coverage limits, and pricing for corporate clients.
- Coordinate with brokers, clients, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders for risk evaluation and policy issuance.
- Review and negotiate policy wordings, endorsements, and treaty terms.
- Monitor portfolio performance, loss ratios, and underwriting profitability.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements applicable to IFSCA/GIFT City operations.
- Support product development and underwriting process improvements.
- Mentor junior underwriting team members and provide technical guidance when required.
- Maintain strong market relationships and contribute to business development initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Commerce, Risk Management, or related field.
- Professional certifications such as ACII, CPCU, III, or equivalent will be preferred.
- 5–10 years of underwriting experience in Insurance/Reinsurance companies.
- Strong understanding of commercial lines, specialty insurance, or reinsurance underwriting.
- Knowledge of IFSCA/GIFT City regulatory framework will be an added advantage.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in underwriting tools, policy systems, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Background
- Experience working with global insurers, reinsurers, or IFSC/GIFT City entities.
- Exposure to corporate clients, international business, or cross-border underwriting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving business environment.
