Controller

Our client, an established and growing consulting firm with offices nationally and internationally, is looking for a Controller to oversee its accounting and financial management functions. This leadership role is ideal for a finance professional who enjoys working in a growing, entrepreneurial environment and can combine strategic insight with strong day-to-day execution. The company has experienced recent high growth and is focused on process improvement and accountability as well as maintaining the positive corporate culture driven by their founders.

Reporting to senior leadership, key responsibilities for this newly created Controller role will be to:

• Lead all core accounting functions, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
• Partner with operations leadership on billing practices and revenue tracking for client engagements
• Oversee the financial close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
• Analyze financial performance and provide leadership with actionable insights
• Supervise a small accounting team, including workflow management and staff development
• Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and banking partners
• Oversee payroll-related accounting, tax filings, and other compliance obligations
• Identify opportunities to improve systems, streamline processes, and increase efficiency

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior leadership responsibility
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting principles
• Experience with accounting software and advanced Excel skills
• Background in a service-driven business environment
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
• CPA or MBA a plus
• Familiarity with engagement-based billing and revenue recognition
• Proven success improving accounting processes and systems
