We are excited to partner with a well-established nonprofit headquartered in Washington, DC with an immediate need for an accountant to join its finance team. This collaborative organization offers a growth-oriented environment where you will be a valued team member.

Reporting to the Controller, this HYBRID role will learn & perform a mix of daily accounting, GL maintenance, and regulatory compliance.

Duties

• GL Management: perform monthly balance sheet analysis, generate journal entries, and reconcile accounts.
• Compliance: Monitor spending against funding restrictions and ensure all transactions comply with federal guidelines.
• Closing & Reporting: assist with fiscal close processes while maintaining clean, audit-ready data tracks.
• Operational Workflows: Oversee day-to-day transactional accounting, including vendor documentation updates (W-9s, agreements), disbursement approvals, and AR.
• Audit: work with leadership to supply accurate schedules, documentation, and reporting for annual institutional financial reviews and tax filings.

Ideal profile:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 2+ years of relevant accounting experience with Grants within non-profit
• Grants experience strongly preferred
• Attention to detail, problem-solving and strong communication skills
