Job Description
Position : Systems Engineer – UAV Flight Control Systems (FCS) & Airworthiness
Experience: 5 to 20 Years
Location: (Hyderabad / Bengaluru / Pune / Indore)
Employment Type: Full-time
Company Description
Qubist Solutions LLC is a leader in creating cutting-edge software innovations and solutions across Avionics, Automotive, AI/ML, Medical, Railways, IoT, and Digital sectors. The company excels in end-to-end software development, including architecture, design, development, and testing. With deep expertise in Aerospace and Avionics Software Design, Development, and Verification & Validation (V&V), Qubist specializes in delivering solutions aligned with the RTCA/DO-178B standards for Software Levels A to D.
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer with deep expertise in UAV Flight Control Systems (FCS) and safety-critical aerospace processes. In this role, you will bridge the gap between advanced Guidance, Navigation, & Control (GNC) design and rigorous civil/military airworthiness frameworks. You will be responsible for anchoring the system architecture, control laws, and top-down requirements traceability for next-generation autonomous aerial platforms.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- System Architecture & ARP4754 Compliance: Define aircraft-level functions, functional boundaries, and system architectures in accordance with SAE ARP4754 guidelines. Support Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA) and System Safety Assessments (SSA).
- FCS & GNC Development: Design, model, and simulate inner-loop stabilization and outer-loop guidance laws using MATLAB/Simulink. Develop robust state-estimation and sensor fusion algorithms (EKF) utilizing MEMS IMUs, GNSS, and air data systems.
- Control Laws & Sensor Fusion Development
Design, model, and simulate flight dynamics and control laws (inner-loop stabilization and outer-loop
guidance) using MATLAB/Simulink.
- Develop and optimize multi-state Extended Kalman Filters (EKF) to achieve robust state estimation by fusing data from Silicon MEMS IMUs, GNSS, magnetometers, and air data systems.
- Implement and tune algorithms for various flight regimes, including transition logic for VTOL platforms or precision trajectory tracking for tactical assets.
Embedded Software & Hardware Integration
- Translate control models into optimized, real-time embedded software code (C/C++) tailored for Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) or bare-metal execution.
- Configure, customize, and extend open-source or proprietary autopilot stacks (e.g., ArduPilot, PX4) to meet platform-specific operational profiles.
- Manage low-level hardware communication interfaces and avionics protocols, including CAN/UAVCAN, MAVLink, SPI, I2C, UART, and legacy standard buses.
Support the compilation of engineering artifacts required for civil or military airworthiness certifications (e.g., SORA, DGCA, FAA).
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech / Ph.D. in Aerospace, Electronics, Control Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience Range: 5 to 20 years of hands-on experience in flight control systems, autopilot development, or avionics systems engineering for UAVs, missiles, or manned aircraft.
- Autopilot Ecosystems: Experience working with or adapting open-source or proprietary autopilot hardware/software stacks (e.g., Pixhawk, PX4, ArduPilot architecture) is a significant plus.
- Control Theory: Deep theoretical and practical command of classical (PID) and modern (LQR, MPC, Adaptive) control design, state-space modeling, and aircraft flight dynamics.
- Sensors & Protocols: Solid understanding of MEMS sensor error characteristics, GPS/GNSS architectures, and avionics communication protocols (MAVLink, CAN, ARINC 429).
- Core Tools: High proficiency in MATLAB / Simulink / Stateflow and requirements management platforms (e.g., IBM DOORS, Jama).
- Software & Simulation: Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink (including embedded coder) and strong programming skills in C/C++ for microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex-M/R series).
- Standards Expertise: Strong working knowledge of SAE ARP4754A/B and safety assessment processes (ARP4761). Familiarity with DO-178C and DO-254 lifecycles is highly desirable.
