For more information about our victories, please visit our website at https://psacunion.ca/ About the role: The Legal Counsel Executive Office provides legal advice and representation to the PSAC Centre and the Components. The position supports the General Counsel by managing legal files, advising staff and representatives on legal matters, and representing the organization before courts, tribunals and other decision-making bodies. The position also provides legal support on matters related to PSAC governance, privacy and access to information, and internal constitutional processes. What we are looking for Education & Experience: The position requires: a law degree from a recognized university, been called to the bar and membership in good standing with a provincial or territorial law society; demonstrated experience appearing in the Federal Court as well as appearances before administrative tribunals. Skills & Knowledge: Specialized knowledge of administrative law, human rights, labour, privacy law and general knowledge of contract and employment law as well as the areas of law identified above. Abilities: Ability to conduct legal research and write legal opinions. Second language skills as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level indicated above. Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines. Ability to negotiate effective solutions to complex legal issues. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and demonstrate discretion and tact. Ability to problem solve in a high demand, highly political environment. Ability to use a computer for document production and legal research) and case management. Ability to develop and support alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate commitment to union principles and social justice. What you need to know Second language skills as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) will be assessed. Valid federal SLE results may be accepted. A combination of education, experience, and demonstrated performance may substitute for formal academic requirements.
